About this listen

Number one global bestselling author Sarah J. Maas launches her brand-new CRESCENT CITY series with House of Earth and Blood: the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night - until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose - to assassinate his boss' enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion - one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and pause-resisting suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by number one global bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom - and the power of love.

Angels, demons, everything In between & some decent smut in the mix, what is there not to like in this one? I truly enjoy stories that can successfully stand alone even when in a series. Well over 25 hours of pure enjoyment. I could not stop listening especially the last several hours. Will definitely be getting the next one.

Maas’ writing shines brighter than ever before. Her characters are written beautifully, feeling realistic in approach and their interactions with their struggles. Add in Throne of Glass Narrator Elizabeth Evans and you have a guaranteed hit. HOEAB marks the strongest start to a Maas series, with a riveting world that begs to be explored, from different planets to a hierarchy of species and their intricate cultures.

my wife has always enjoyed Sarah Maas' works. she finally convinced me to give this one a listen while I was in between reads.

I wasn't prepared for what I found. this book and writing hooked me instantly. It brought joy and anticipation, fear and tears. I haven't had such a great listening experience in years.

superb voice work to an already excellent story.

This story was a bit slow to begin, but draws you in after a few chapters. It had me crying at one point. I can't wait to get to the next book in the series.

It took me about 4 chapters to get into but then took off. So so good! Can’t wait for the second and third!

I had read a few negative reviews on the story prior to starting this so I went in warily, but honestly, I loved it.

It’s cheesy and cliche but I love that shxt! I got hooked pretty quickly on a long road trip and I ended up listening to only this for about 7 hours and the time flew by.

There’s a ton of information and I tried not to stress too much about remembering every little detail, but after listening to the audiobook (really great performance by Evans, by the way) I’m just amped up to read the book in physical form (might be easier to keep track of the different houses and all that stuff too).

I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just wrap up and say I really had a great time listening to this. I cried about three different times (twice at the end within 10 chapters of each other). I laughed and I gasped and groaned at some decisions but I was HOOKED.

It feels like I read a grand epic story — I would have been cool if this was a standalone book, but am so excited that there’s a second one coming out next year. I will be reading that and probably re-reading this book at some point in the future.

I’ve listened to the audiobook for SJM’s ACOTAR series but if I had to pick, I think this is my fave.

a good epic time

Excellent, even when doing a reread to prepare for the sequels. Fantastic world building. Strong character development (although sometimes a bit heavy handed). Great writing and nice narration.

It had its sappy moments but had a lot of action. I can’t wait until the werewolves are more involved.
