Cats' narration made me cringe

"The House Witch" is a light-hearted read with a touch of humor, though not particularly funny overall. While there are a few amusing moments, it could have been more charming in its execution. The concept of a witch with a cat familiar is intriguing, and the inclusion of chapters from the cat's perspective adds a unique twist. However, the story takes an uncomfortable turn when it delves into the cat gang theme, especially concerning the portrayal of different cats and a focus on black cats.

Despite its shortcomings, the book offers an easy listening experience, and the narrator deserves full credit for their performance. However, due to the uncomfortable elements around the racist sounding cat character voices and the overall lack of charm, I may not be inclined to pick up the next book in the series.

The cat has a Creole accent?!?

Story was pretty great, and I loved every aspect of the narration... except the voice for Kraken. Why?!?...why did they choose this for a cast of characters that all had no other American accents. I was cringing through the few scenes that were from Kraken's pov.

Great listen, the narrator was perfect (it sucks when a good audio book gets ruined my one!) laughed out loud a few times highly recommend!

A Delight From Beginning to End

This reminded me of a certain type of novel, I can't remember the official genre but they always have a plucky young commoner girl who somehow gets intertwined with a noble man, usually a Duke, as they solve a murder case together - only the roles here are reversed and the plucky young man is a serly young cook with magical powers, and the Duke is a Viscountess. Oh and there is no murder, but there might be a war so that counts.
At any rate, the plot was excellent and the characters were rich and real. I was completely invested in what would happen next and had to force myself to stop listening and go to sleep, only to anxiously continue in the morning. I'm so happy that there is a second book already released because I need more right now.

I want more!

Ruby's voice was my only complaint for the entire book, but it grows on you. I love the characters and VA. now on to the next!

Entertaining and mellow

A fun light hearted listen with not much at stake. my biggest complaint is that the choice of accent for the cars is atrocious and painful but skipping those parts won't cause you to miss anything important. Overall, a worthwhile listen. looking forward to the next installment.

Seriously cute

This was so cute and fun, a little more drunken shenanigans than I would have liked but it still was cute.
This book is one you really don't have to think about, just enjoy.
I truly needed this and loved it for the easy listen.

Adorable Cozy Fantasy

This cozy fantasy is filled with good food, sweet treats and humor galore. With low stakes it’s a wonderful break from the serious stories we usually love. Has adorable romance without spice. Narrator does wonderful voices. Overall a great cozy escape.
